Voting Rights Act 1965 Class
Sunday, June 7th at 11:00 am
The Voting Rights Act of 1965 is considered one of the crown jewels in the civil rights era that was signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson. In 1966, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the VRA in the South Carolina v. Katzenbach which would have reversed the existing federal law. Sixty years later, the Supreme Court heard Louisiana v. Callais, which is a case that the Supreme Court recently ruled on that overturn's major components of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
